ACS has selected 22 undergraduate students from a pool of 137 applicants for the 2019 SCI Scholars Program. The students will perform paid internships this summer at leading U.S. chemical industrial companies.

SCI Scholars is a summer internship program for high-performing chemistry and chemical engineering undergraduate students. It was developed by the Society of Chemical Industry (SCI) to encourage students to consider careers in industry through internship experiences.

Applicants must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and demonstrate outstanding flexibility, self-motivation, and critical thinking skills to thrive in an industrial career.

SCI member companies provide 10-week summer internship experiences where students gain valuable workplace experiences, skills, and insights into industry. Duties vary by location and can range from writing procedures to developing process recommendations to testing equipment, protocols, and procedures (see their stories on Facebook). In addition to a salary and benefits, SCI Scholars receive a certificate and $1,000 to use toward professional development or participation in a scientific meeting. They also have the opportunity to nominate a high school science teacher who helped them on their path for a $1,000 certificate award in support of his or her classroom.
