Celebrating the 2018-2019 ACS Student Chapter Award Recipients

A haunted lab. A biodegradable Easter egg hunt. A green chemistry papermaking demo. Special panels, presentations, and workshops with professionals and grad students. Symposia celebrating women in science. There was no shortage of creativity or diversity in activities during the 2018-2019 academic year, and there is much to celebrate as ACS recognizes student chapters at colleges and universities for the positive impact they had on communities, the professional development of their members and peers, and the advancement of the chapters themselves.

Each year the Society Committee on Education identifies ACS Student Chapters to receive awards in recognition of their programs and activities. The awards are based on submitted chapter reports. In 2020, ACS also began granting awards to international student chapters.

Successful student chapters can win outstanding, commendable,  honorable mention, and/or green chemistry awards. Chapters that do not qualify for these awards may receive a certificate of achievement for meritorious service.

For the 2018-2019 academic year, ACS honored 57 outstanding, 131 commendable, and 160 honorable mention chapters. In addition, 55 student chapters successfully earned a green chemistry award for completing green chemistry activities throughout the year.
